HI!

Interested in spending the weekend with us and 10 other wild souls? We would like to invite everyone who identifies as a woman; we’ll pack up our bags and hike up to Hišimy̓awiƛ – former 5040 cabin – between Port Alberni and Ucluelet.

Move in, connect, dip in the lake, cook up some yummy, healthy food and bask in the full moon light.

Hiking guide Mel and embodiment coach Jen will lead you through a weekend of hiking, exploring, learning, being still as well as doing a guided JourneyDance under the full moon with silent disco headphones.

We will do hiking specific stretches/yoga and invite you to a summit meditation as well as little prompts and invitations to connect with nature. We will ground all this with initial embodied intention setting for the weekend.

Being present is our goal. Having the time to listen to nature and ourselves, and the space to turn inwards.

We believe that adventure and nature can nourish and help us grow. For this, we want to offer you a safe and slow place. So all you need to do is join, and just be. We will take care of the rest.

Meet the facilitators Jen&Mel

Jen

Currently living, breathing, and practicing in the traditional territory of Yuułuʔiłʔatḥ (Ucluelet), Jen has always been enamoured with nature. She grew up on the water sailing and has made a habit of making her home amongst oceans, mountains, and forests.

She believes connecting with nature is an idyllic means of learning about who we are and reflecting about what is truly important .

Her passion lies in finding her inner peace by combining movement with the outdoors. She has been practicing as an Embodiment Guide for six years teaching JourneyDance in a variety of breathtaking locations. She also has the pleasure of working as a certified Embodiment and Executive Coach. Jen also co-founded Esctactic Dance Pacific Rim offering intentional dance journeys on the beaches near her home.

Typically, you will find Jen amongst the waves surfing, hiking, cycling, dancing on the beach, practicing yoga and meditation as well as spending intentional time with friends, her partner, and their one year old daughter.

Mel

Being based in Squamish BC for the past 10 years has allowed her to live the life she has been manifesting.

Living by the ocean, yet in the mountains, being able to live off this beautiful land of the Sḵwx̱wú7mesh Úxwumixw (Squamish Nation), recreating and working in her stunning backyard.

Most of the time you can find her in the mountains, carried to exciting new places by her snowboard as well as on foot. To counterbalance the rigidity of the mountains, Mel feels a strong draw from the ocean and spends time on her sailboat on Howe Sound or kitesurfing in this ever windy place.

She is a full-time, all-year round guide and also works with teenagers in outdoor education, having realized that making the upcoming generation the guardians of our land we recreate in is the only way to protect and keep is a sanctuary for us to rest in.

Mel is a certified hiking, snowboard and sea kayak guide, and the founder and owner of Stoke Sisters. A passion project to empower women to get into the backcountry through creating community and a safe pathway.

Story Jen&Mel

Having met on the ocean, literally, inevitably set us up for an adventurous friendship. Mel giving Jen kiteboarding lessons in Squamish, setting her up for adventure and Jen being the grounding person she is giving Mel tips on how to settle her hectic vagabond life in Canada.

Being drawn to the grounding safe&known, versus the pull of the unknown&new where the magic happens, is a permanent theme that comes up in our friendship.

Navigating this as we both chose to take education in these 2 themes, with Jen being an embodiment coach and Mel an outdoor guide, created many moments where the synergies of these opposing skills complemented each other with exactly what we both needed.

Our vision is to pass on these synergies we experienced, in form of this retreat. A combination of acquiring hard skills from a certified outdoor guide to be able to feel independent and comfortable in the backcountry. Paired with gaining awareness and understanding of soft skills offered by an embodiment coach to enjoy these adventures in a mindful way, enabling you to use the outdoors as a retreat to go to where you can find clarity, peace and stress relief.
